At FOS Barcelona we want to mimic nature where everything is in constant movement, transformation, and balance. This way, infinite closed cycles are generated, eliminating the concept of waste.
FOS Barcelona is a brand that explores the current production and consumption systems, waste management systems and cultural habits around these through products that offer an extended vision about the meaning of quality.
We understand quality as the property by which a product performs well for a long period of time, while keeping in balance the ecosystem it interacts with. Quality should go beyond the mere tangible properties of a product. It should include its wide impacts in society, economy and the environment. If as users we aren’t educated to understand this, then quality becomes perception of quality, which is generally not linked to actual quality.
OUR WORKING PRINCIPLES
Design
Designing products that won’t become waste at the end of its useful life, by replacing the current model of “take-fabricate-throw away” for a circular one.
Materials
Generating value from waste. Due to mass production, materials are cheap and easily accessible and therefore their real value is missed. They need to be used with care if our intention is to keep utilizing them in future generations.
Fabrication
Producing locally and decentralized. This way the emissions related to transport are reduced plus benefits local wealth.
Education
Helping people to be conscious of the responsibility and potential that we have as consumers. Every act of consumption is a political choice.

FOS is a prototype towards changing the paradigm of the current industrial economy, where cities function linearly importing products and producing waste, for an ecosystem where materials flow within the city and the information spreads globally. FOS is a prototype towards a shift of the actual industrial paradigm, and the perfect place to test these ideas is the Nest City Lab, an oasis in the middle of the city where we all work to understand how can we live together in harmony with the planet.

Meet the team.
Aniol and Marc are two design engineers based in Barcelona that have always felt far from the way the production and consumption systems work. After being in sustainability departments in the corporate environment, we realised we didn’t want to spend our lives creating more products for the taking-making-disposing way of consuming, and started what today is FOS. We are now a multidisciplinary team giving shape to this brand with the aim of understanding how to best produce tangible goods that generate real piositive impacts.
